Surgical Relief
Dr. P specializes in a range of soft tissue surgeries, including but not limited to general surgery and preventative gastropexy, Dental COHATs, exploratory surgeries such as foreign body removal and pyometra, intestinal biopsies, enucleations, nare repair, mass removals, and more.
With more than 8 years of experience offering lower-cost emergency surgery from referral facilities, there isn't much she hasn't done, and not much she isn't comfortable handling.
Mentorship
Do you have a new grad or recent grad but no time to stand in surgery with them? It's not easy to make time to shadow them in appointments while you're seeing your own patients as well.
Dr. P can be scheduled to mentor, assist, and train, new veterinary graduates and recent graduates, helping them build strong foundations and become productive associates.
Dr. P also provides a training manual with step-by-step milestones over the course of 3 or 6 month training periods.
With extensive experience in teaching at CCSU veterinary technician program, implementation of fear-free and stress-free handling programs at multiple facilities, and mentoring and onbaording new graduate doctors during her 4 years as a medical director, you can be confident in her ease and efficiency at producing gold-standard associates.
Urgent Care/ER Relief
ER and urgent care services need constant, 24/7, doctor coverage. If you need a swing shift, overnight, or day-time shift covered, Dr. P is open to helping out.
Need someone to cover laceration repairs or emergency surgeries while on shift? She's your girl.
Just need someone to supplement your day-time associate, she's up for that too.
Meet the Doc
Dr. Patricia Prior has been practicing veterinary medicine for 12 years. She graduated from St. George's University of Veterinary Medicine and The Ohio State University in 2015. She started in the veterinary field when she was 18 years old, working her way up from a kennel assistant, to reception, to veterinary assistant and technician, through veterinary school, becoming a doctor, and a managing DVM.
In her 12 years, she has trained and worked with board certified specialists in critical care, internal medicine, and surgery, has practiced general medicine and emergency medicine, and has been a medical director for over 4 years. Her shift into veterinary relief is based on the desire to spend more time with her family and to focus on the aspects of veterinary medicine that she loves most.
Her special interests include hospital culture repair and building, implementing the gold standard of medicine across the veterinary industry, soft tissue surgery, mentorship and training, and emergency medicine.
Dr. Prior is currently working towards an ABVP certification.

In 2024 Dr. Prior was voted "Best of Connecticut" on the Top Doctor platform while she was medical director at Shelton Veterinary Clinic.
This company is a fully insured, private LLC for ease of payment and peace of mind.
Dr. Prior also holds her own veterinary liability insurance.

In 2023-2024 She attended an received a certificate of completion for a 1 year course from the Rarebreed Leadership Academy associated with Oklahoma State Univeristy.
